Have any bakery needs for your sailors in Groton? K's Homemade Sweets 'N' Treats is a great choice. My son's birthday was last week and my wife found this site in nearby Gales Ferry. We called on Saturday and she had him a 16" chocolate chip cookie delivered to him on his birthday Monday. She accepts payment through pay pal or even snail mail. She'll even send you a pic of your sailor with his treat. Her phone number is (860) 514-8435.

He is STA-21 and will graduate this spring.  His PIR was 27 February 2009. Since he is sub selected and an officer he has to take power school and prototype again as an officer as well as sub school.

Hi Bob,  I believe the first order of business, after PIR, will be to make a submariner out of him.  Don't hold me to that -- the needs of the Navy may dictate otherwise...

Welcome to Connecticut!  Get ready for sticker shock.

So sometime in the next 2 years my son will be in Groton for sub school. He thinks he has to do nuc power school and prototype first

My son and some other sailors from the Twin Cities area are aligning their travel plans so they can travel together.  Sounds like three so far, with another one possible.  Hartford to Twin Cities just before Christmas, and returning to Groton after the first of the year.  I am glad they are working together to figure this out.  Acting like a team.  Good stuff.

Does anyone have info on C school for ITS rates or how many weeks basic sub school lasts? We have seen both 4 and 6.

Scott: Last December when my son came home on leave, he was able to get a shuttle from Hartford (a friend drove him to the airport). At that time, the base provided a $30 shuttle to both Hartford (taxi was $100+) and Providence, but they preferred Providence as they had just re-instated the service to Hartford after having not for some time. My son was able to arrange everything through the travel services team on base. Make certain your sailor doesn't misplace the shuttle info sheet as mine did; he was clueless as to where and when to meet the shuttle in Hartford to return to base. But it worked out in the end. When we looked to book Delta flights, it was about twice as expensive to fly into Providence for some reason. In your case, Delta via Hartford would be about a straight, 2.5 hour flight. When we flew to visit, we always went through MPLS to Hartford.

My $0.02 says Hartford-Bradley (BDL) is a better alternative than Boston-Logan.
