No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Philip, I've burned one every night since my daughter left for boot except one when I wasn't home. I went and purchased an electric candle at Michael's so if I weren't going to be home, I could take it with me. I will take it to GL next week to burn that last night.
Burning a Blue candle tonight.....
George...........excellent news, I know how it feels waiting.......continue to write often......my SR, (now an SA) said letters were like christmas morning.......we also sent him some newspaper clips, he loved it.
Good Luck and remember, your SR is in good hands
Ok! A little contact sure makes a difference .Update on my SR. Since last week, finally the form letter was recived by our daughter in-law on Saturday. What a wait that was!. It was two weeks on this past Thursday since he shipped out. He is Ship 12 Div. 122, PIR on 4-13 having the note on the back was outstanding, he said boot camp is great, so far. With a big smiley face! We have received phone calls for his security clearance information etc. This is now what expected of our son. Makes me feel much better, he was in a great state of mind. I’m really glad he was Physically and mentally very prepared for GL.
Hopefully we will hear from our young man (says he is one of youngest in his division at 18yrs) at the end of this week...............his PIR is 16March...........says his mates are awesome and has made many friends. Thank you to your sons/daughters in 09/088 who may have helped my son get through this tough time. We appreciate it............GO NAVY!
Steve: Our daughter is only 5-2, but we KNOW she was taller at PIR. (We were too.) Congratulations!
Well here we go again, my daughter's PIR was Feb 17...it was Great!
Now my son just started Boot this past Wednesday! I was home when he made his "I'm here and fine" phone call. Both were in the DEP program going for different rates, so I have one new sailor on the west coast and the other will be on the east coast. I was amazed by the change in my daughter, she seems taller, standing with pride at what she has become. She and my son exchanged many letters with his sister while she was in boot, so he knows what he is getting into and I am sure he will do well. I am proud of them both for making the decision to become Sailors.
Congrats Paul........enjoy your time with him
What a ride....6 weeks ago, in our first letter, he stated "This place is SHITTY beyond imagination"....Today I got my 5th letter that started "This has been probably the best day EVER" The little bum is having fun!!!! Passing tests, earning ribbons and flags...they got 6...awarded sharpshooter...excited about running and his final PFA. He is even looking forward to the gas room. He then said his RDCs are actually pretty nice guys that he has learned to trust and depend on....when they don't get mad and yell. If it wasn't his handwritting, I wouldn't believe it was my kid. Wow what a change. Yea, I'm Jazzed, BS21 next week and PIR on 3/9. We are both looking forward it.
Dads, hang on tight...the days are long but the weeks go fast. He mentioned several times how much our letters mean to him and give him hope so write often. GO NAVY !!!!
