No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Tom hit the nail right on the head!!!

Bill...I think that we all did!!! The next chapter will be "eye to eye" as the boy that you send off returns as a man with his own dreams and direction. It is bittersweet...but on the day that you attend PIR and see it all unfold before you, you will feel a pride that is unmatched!

Again, my son doesn't leave for boot camp until May 1st......very proud he has decided to go into the Navy.....but I am already starting to get a case of separation anxiety. It's not about the Navy but rather the reality that life with my son as I have known it for 23 years is about to change forever. One long chapter about to close and another to start. Wondering if any of you other Navy Dads experienced this?

Our form letter (a couple years ago) took about a week after the box. Most people get it about 10 days after they arrive at boot camp. Hang in there it won't be long now. Have those letters ready to send as soon as you get the address :)

Patience Scott....no news is good news right now....you'll get the letter....have you watched this series of vids? http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/return-to-bootcamp

Scott:  Relax, it takes a while.  You get the Kid in the Box with instructions, then when they have time (usually maybe a couple hours on Sunday) sometime later you'll get a letter.  It is all normal.

If anyone could shed some light on bootcamp for me, it would help. my son cody  has been in bootcamp a week now, and i havent recived the letter of where, and how i can right to him. I have recived the box of his cloths yesterday that he wore up there, but nothing else. should i try calling his recuitor or give it more time?

Had a friend who's son was headed to Afghanistan.  They drove from SC to NY to have dinner with him and then drove back home and came to our house for my daughter's going-to-bootcamp party.  Agree with Kevin, for those who are able, take every chance you get.  We'll be driving up from SC in March if only to watch her PIR.

Kevin...understood.  Couple of years ago we had a member that got to spend exactly 10 minutes with his daughter after PIR before she was on the bus to the airport......he was emphatic that he would not have traded those few moments for anything!  With kids in the Navy you gotta take whatever time with them you can get!!!!

Got a letter from my daughter yesterday. turns out she will be shipping out Friday night after graduation. With us driving there from Delaware, seems like an awefully long drive now to spend 8 hours with our girl. Guess we will just hang out in Chicago a bit more than anticipated.
