No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Ship 13 is the USS Marvin Shields. fyi, all ships at bootcamp are named after real ships....

Beleive me, you don't want to ask about these one either.... j/k, these photos have been approve for release by the Navy... Remember, I'm a retired Navy guy, I've been running Navy forum boards for a real long time, and I know how to get stuff offically done....
Here is the USS Arizona (ship 14). All the buildings (ships) are designed the same way.

Todd - Here is a picture of the USS Chicago (ship 7) on the right hand side. The left hand side is the USS Kennedy (ship 9). Sleep well knowing where he will be for the next two months....

Just got a call from my son and he arrived in Chicago. He is excited and nervous at the same time. Reminds me of how 20+ years ago when I was in Orlando.

Spoke with our daughter on Labor Day. She is eager for PIR 9/17. She indicated this week a busy week with Firefighter training, gas mask training, Physical Training Test, Battle Stations Prep, etc. A lot packed into a shortened week due to the holiday. GO NAVY!!

that is right according to schedule.....toward end of week 2, but more usually week three for the first letter....sometimes a call at the same time depending on how well the division is starting to pull together

My son shipped on 08/04 (Wednesday). Got the boy in the box and the form letter on 08/09 (Monday). But the first hand written letter didn't come until 08/23. It will take 2-3 weeks to get the first real letter.
