Lol, I remember him getting a few weeks of latrine & barracks duty waiting for clearances and classes to start. He phased up pretty quickly. He did well at Corry by working hard, studying hard, keeping his nose clean and picking up quickly what was expected of him. I think he's been doing the same (for the most part while on duty, maybe not quite so much off duty) since his stationing at Hampton Roads and deployment aboard his DDG. He's made PO 3rd class (E4) in only a year and a half. Part of that is his CT rating the rest is the stuff above (which really wasn't his M.O. as a teenager, the Navy has made a young man out of him).

Can't get his advise now as the ship is in the Arabian Gulf theatre and incommunicado for a while. A note for the future; you can talk to your sailor (at times) in real time while he's deployed aboard ship via Facebook Messenger. I resisted Facebook assiduously, since its inception, until I found that out. He's been gone about 3 mo. now and we've been able to talk to him several times a week by Messenger. Kept him in the Christmas day loop with his brothers and family with it, including pictures of the house, tree, stockings, etc... Think it made him a bit sad but happier than if he missed his first Christmas with no inclusion at all. Point is that it's a great tool to stay connected when they're not in a 'silent running' posture as they are now. Hooyah and thanks to your son for his service!

Hey Rick, thanks for the warm welcome. I did indeed go to the PIR last week and you are correct.. one of the best experiences of my life to see my son after that experience.

We are waiting for him to get his background check back so he can badge up and then class up.. nerve racking but I am sure it will be ok.  Reading a lot about difficulties other sailors have had can make a Dad nervous for sure.  We plan to go see him once he gets to Phase II or III liberty, it was such a short visit at Great Lakes. Would love to know any advice you or your son might have for mine in tackling this next challenge of getting through A school.

Hi Matt & welcome to the CT group. Congrats on your son's graduation from Great Lakes, hope you had the chance to attend. It's a humbling and honorable experience. Our CT is about a year out of Corry now and deployed on a DDG as part of a Strike Group (who are likely pounding the snot outa ISIS as we speak). Let me know if I can be of service and plan to visit him in Pensacola if you can. I was not able to but my wife and our daughter-in-law did and enjoyed it greatly.

Greetings everyone, I have a brand new Sailor who just arrived last weekend to Corry to become a CTR. Pretty excited for his journey ahead. Appreciate that there is a group here for the CTRs here. I am sure I will be asking lots of questions as his journey begins.

Hey- it's our pleasure!  You proud Navy dads are the best group around!

Thanks Paul, they were toggled correctly. I resaved them anyway. I did receive the general email notification about the multimedia link yesterday, and a notification of your response to my comment to Michael today via the CT group. We're quite proud of our sailor and all those who serve! And grateful for the service you all do via this site.

Hi Michael & welcome. Just saw your post from a couple weeks ago. I don't seem to get email notifications any longer (?) and haven't been on for a long time. The CT group is probably the smallest of them all. Our sailor deployed in Nov, his ship is part of the Truman Strike Group. He just made P.O. 3rd class last month, after only a yr. & half of service. The CT's move up pretty quickly if they're doing their work & keeping the 'chits' down. Assume you're sailor is in training? Pensacola? Once deployed, Facebook is a great way to stay connected. I only created an account for that reason. We're able to talk to him a half a world away in real time through Facebook messenger (when he's able to). Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Hello all you Navy Dads. New to the group and the site.

Hello again guys, hope you had a blessed Christmas and happy new year! Looks like we picked up a couple of members since my last visit (we're up to 7 now). The new year was fantastic here as our Buckeyes brought home a national championship and James got to 'push it up the posterior' of all those SEC'ers and nay sayer's down @ Corry. Glad to hear Donald made it to Pensacola over the holidays, Lisa just loved the Naval Museum too. James got his orders and reports at the end of the month (can't say where / when here but it's within driving distance, yahoo!). The kids are searching for quarters and will be on their own for the first time in their lives. Married for nearly a year and haven't even lived together yet. The Navy will be doing the move (they give the sailors up to 4 tons without charge), our garage is hermetically packed with all their stuff. James will be home for a week between postings to direct the movers and kick back a bit. He graduates from A school with honors next Tues. Very proud of him and all of our sailors who protect us from the cretins who think they can threaten our liberty!
