Navy Tiger Cruise: For those lucky enough to have the opportunity to sail on a Family Day or Tiger Cruise --- Some tips and helps... and a little bit of bragging too!
I have been approved for a Tiger cruise happening in a few weeks. I've been given only limited information from my sailor and Navy so far. From the Navy I got a packing list. From my sailor I have vague information when they will be arriving and leaving port. I have a hotel booked, but from my limited information I may need to book an additional night or two. I also need to know how I get access to the base. Is that on a shuttle bus? Should I be expecting any more detailed info from the Navy, or am I just to wing it once I get to the port I am meeting the ship at?
That fee is about $140 paid by your sailor. You have to pass a medical evaluation to get approved. Three general cruises: Mayport to Norfolk- about 2.5 days, Hawaii to San Diego...about 5 days and very rarely San Diego to Seattle. You have awhile to wait until you sailor returns from cruise.....and Tiger Cruises are NOT always offered.

Dannelle, there really is no charge for the cruise, but you will pay for meals, any thing you may purchase from the on board commissary and of course air fare and hotel to meet up with the ship. However, you must have a sailor on board who is a child or close relative. Tiger Cruises are simply not something that's open to anyone.

actually that "fee" is the estimate of food costs for the cruise.....there is no fee for the cruise itself so you were correct.....

So there is a fee. I missed that. Still learning.

I just want to clarify Paul's comment. Your Sailor is responsible for making the payment to the appropriate person on board, but the Tigers give the money to their Sailor to make the payment. I know I did it that way anyway. I don't know of any Tigers that actually expected their Sailor to foot the bill out of their own pocket. Cash was appreciated on my trip.
