It happens. I pulled the master fuse for the car. As old as my car is and the super high mileage, buying new keys and replacing the locks may cost more than the cars worth. This break in may have totalled my car.....
Quick question for after PIR... My son will be graduating on 12/13 and then head to Dam Neck, VA for his A school. When I see him at PIR, can I give him back his phone to keep? How about giving him anything (like clothes?) When do the new sailors get to keep personal stuff?
Jay... If you go to the airport to see you son off, you can give him any electronics there. His sea bag will have little to no room plus he'll have to phase up to wear civvies... Usually about 2 weeks or so
Thank you to all who have served and are serving! I heard from my son and he is doing well, over half way through boot camp. He qualified with the side arm last week and missed expert by 1 point so he was a bit disappointed. He also spoke to the Nuke people and got what should be his final rating, ET(NUC), which is what he was hoping to get, so we are very happy for him and looking forward to seeing him at PIR on the 27th. Anyone else headed up there that week?
My step-son Glenn is suppose to have his PIR on 11/22/2013. Approximately what day would Battle Stations be held? I was guessing it would be this week but I can't figure the schedule out. Thank you for any info to give me a frame of reference.
We went to Great Lakes to our son graduate Friday morning. I really enjoyed the experience. He pulled watch for a couple hours after graduation but we still got to spend time with him on Liberty. We also went to the airport to see him off. All we had to do was call the USO and have them send him out. He took our id's to the ticket counter (in his case Delta) and they printed service member family security passes. We even got to go through security in the crew line. I am very proud of our son. He is in Pensacola for A school now.
She has a friend in separations who she sees at church on Friday and told her friend to tell me she should graduate dec 13. Sr in separations can get online routinely so SR Robards sent me a message saying siera Will graduate dec 13.... 4more weeks. She'll have been gone over 1/3 of the year by the time she graduates.
I got the locks changed and a new set of keys made. Just booked my flight and hotel for the graduation on the 13th. I was talking to a girl on an rcu facebook page. She was in rcu and bootcamp for 50 weeks. Can anyone imagine celebrating their one year in the military your 2nd week of A School? I find her inspirational. She survived nearly a year in bootcamp.
It is 5 days left until I get to see my step-son Glenn at his PIR 11/22/13. Never imaged that 8 weeks would pass by so slowly. All in all this has been a good experience. I think I sent him a card each day and it was nice to get the phone calls and letters from him. I found out he won a couple of ribbons for his performance. His mom has definitely been a trooper though all of this and we look forward to spending as much time as possible with him.
Now all we need is that call to come after battle stations!! Pride in my in him has taken a whole different meaning these days.
Everyone on this site has been terrific answering questions, giving information about the schedule or the process and even helping me through the early days when you are waiting for the first letter or call.
Well time to go back to watching the clock and waiting for the "I'm a Sailor" call. If you have any advice about this last week, I am all ears!!!
just talked tp Siera's recruiter. shes on the uss arizona. he didnt give me a div number just the address uss arizona 3410 sailor dr great lakes il 60088-3510 I sent 2letters to that addres. hoping she gets my letters
Well if my math is correct my step-son (PIR 11/22/13) has finished battle stations this morning. Just waiting on the call...that clock just moves pretty slow. Fingers are crossed.
Congratulations to your step-son Stephen! Once your sailor gets to A school and able to communicate with you regularly, the time will pick up. I am amazed that my son will graduate from A school this Friday.....21 weeks after PIR! It seems like only yesterday I was in your shoes celebrating his passing Battle Stations and getting ready to head off to PIR.
Anyone else have a sailor start basic on 11-19 Great Lakes? My son shipped out Tuesday, got a 30 second phone call that night and now have two weeks to wait out.
Mike Weaver,my son also shipped the 19th and we got the same call.He said we would hear from him in two weeks as well and we received his belongings today from fedex. He is my first to leave home and I have to say its not easy! I am proud of him and support his decision 100%.
It does seem like it went so slow, but it was good talking to him today even though his voice is almost gone from cadences. He seems to have really stepped up and he said many of the other recruits, now sailors, on his squad commented in his leadership skills and that one young man in particular was very greatfull that my son encouraged him in the last few days.
I know what you mean... I was on boot camp 30 years ago it was tough on my family back then, but continue to support him as well as all in the armed forces and continue to write him it will be much appreciated by him when mail starts to arrive to him.
We talked to him when he got to airport but when he made the call when he got there we never got had phones right next to us. My wife has been writing him every day since the day he left.
I attended my step-sons PIR last Friday. It was definitely a event that is very moving when you see the divisions enter the hall. I have been amazed in the transformation that our new sailor has gone through in just 8 weeks. I could not be prouder of him, he went into this as a nervous teenager and came out a fine example of a young man. Too bad every teenager is not required to go through this training.
Today, siera and 150other sailors were adopted by the local vfw and given the time of their lives. They provided cell phones, laptops, video games, monster energy drinks, thanksgiving dinner, and the ability to call home all day long. Siera called me at 11am and we talked several times both on the phone and over Facebook. She even was able to send me 3 pictures. I'm so happy.
No need for a tie. I just went to PIR last Wednesday and was quite overdressed. By all means dress nice and look professional but very few people were dressed "Formal".
I wore a tie and sport coat for my daughter's and my son's PIRs- it is considered a formal military ceremony, but I saw everything from jeans to three-piece suits....wear what you feel appropirate for the occasion.

BS21 can occur 1-10 days prior to PIR....you cannot figure closer as typically only 2-3 divisions pass through the faciltity at any one time....
