900-series divisions are performing divisions: band, choir, flags, and drill and as a result not only have to learn their "normal" Navy topics but have rehearsals and practice as well.

i am a happy man today got a phone call from my son we got to talk for about 30 to 45 mins and it was what i needed and he said it isnt as hard just the missing home he said he actually loves it up there and is actually kind of having fun but we both cant wait to see eachother 

OK Guys, i have another "situation" I need some advice about. My son left Nashville 7-14-14 for RTC. I received a call Friday 7/18/14, from FEDEX stating that they had a package for me, but the address wasn't legible so they either needed me to confirm my address or I could come to the office and retrieve it. Turns out it was my sons belongings/"kid in a box". The address wasn't that bad considering the stress these young men and women are under when they write it. My concern is about his "Form Letter"; how long should I wait before I try to track it down, and if I don't receive it who should i contact?

Just got the first letter from my SR he said he is missing home, but is enjoying the learning new things and said he passed his first physical testing run with time of 10:47 and he wasn't even trying hard.

he volunteered for subs and is waiting on his nuke rating. he sounded upbeat about training and down about missing home so I've told all family to write and cheer him up.

Eddie I never received my form letter and was a nervous wreck about it. As long as you have his ship # and division #, his PIR date you should be fine. Next chance you get to talk to your SR ask him to let you know when he mailed it and get the password for the gate pass. My son was up for almost 21 hours and said he mailed it to me but he was so tired and as you stated the stress of it all he did not remember what address he mailed it too. It never went to his dads or grandmother's house either. Good luck and I hope this helps. Hopefully you will receive it soon.  Best of luck to your future Sailor.

We just got the form letter for our son Will.  He is scheduled for PIR on Sept. 12.  Does anyone have any suggestion on lodging that will be convenient to the base at Great Lakes?   Thanks!

Got the letter ... woot woot ... will be there on Sept 19th!!!  I knew he would be PiR on the 12th or the 19th.  He got the 19th.  The 12th worked better for us but all will be well.  SHIP 14 DIV 291 .. PiR 09/19/2014!

we got our second phone call this weekend besides the im here phone call.ship 11 div283 son sounded great,i only talked to him for a minute but his mother talked to him for 38 minutes.he is good says he hasnt gotten into any real trouble yet,got caught sleeping once and had to do 30 minutes of intense training.other than that he sounded good and happier than last phone call.the first phone call the whole division had to do a 30 minute intense workout to get the phone priveledge.

still waiting to see any photos of kid.ship 11 div283.received another phone call wed aug 6th from him.got to talk to him for a while this time he sounded really good.said he is really happy for his decision to join the greatest navy in the world.he is doing well on his tests both physical and academic.cant wait to see him in sept.he said probably no more phone calls for a while.very proud.

SHIP 11...DIV 297...PIR 9/19/14

I talk to my son on Saturday (I had to hold my tears back) what a blessing hearing his voice. I'm very thank for a caring church that is writing letters to my son. We can't wait to see my son. Waiting for his letters. God is good

I know that "no news in good news", but this not hearing from my son is getting tough!  Had a letter two weeks ago, and a call a week and a half ago.  Nothing since (ship12/div289)

the letter came today. My son is expected to graduated on 10-3. That is great it just become complicated due to his sister being her homecoming week and she is a senior. Lots of decisions left to make.

My step son shipped out for Great Lakes on 8-13-14, we got the kid in the box on 8-20-14, his mother really loved opening the box still the odor hit her.  Still can't figure out how he lost a sock in the process.  Got the letter today 8-22-14 for his ship/division and pir date.  The stack of letters from mom already in the mail. Simple things that make moms happy.  Proud of our Recruit.

It's been a great week. Had a call from our SR on Friday night. First one since the 20 second call on 21 July when he arrived. Graduating is inching closer; PIR is 19 Sept. Ship 02, DIV 945. 

My son is currently in Nuke School in Goose Creek.

But my daughter leaves for Boot Camp (MEPS) on Sept. 1st.

It has JUST hit me that my "baby" is leaving home.

I'm sitting hear thinking "what have I done!?" LOL

And the roller coaster ride begins again....

Anyone have a SR in Division 324 Ship 13 PIR 10/10?

I was trying to figure out how training schedule works. This is how I understand it.

If an SR arrives at GL on Monday afternoon, then that is P1, Tues is P2, Wed is P3, Th is P4, Fri is P5..That makes Sat BC WK1 D1, Sun (off), M is Wk 1 D2, Tu is Wk 1 D3 Wed is Wk 1 D4, TH is Wk 1 D5...That makes Th Wk 2 D1, etc....

Is that how it works?

Typically the first 4-10 days  after the new recruits arrive at RTC are called Processing Days or P-Days.  Around holidays and sometimes for unforeseen issues (flight delays, severe weather, etc.) P-days can last up to 14 days.  Although recruits are assigned to a ship and division upon arrival, these assignments are not final and they do not move to their designated ship until P-days are over.   Unplanned events may change that ship assignment.   Your sailor's recruiter may give you an address a day or two after your recruit arrived at Great Lakes with a particular division that may not be final. This is why NavyDads always advises you to wait for your sailor's form letter with his or her correct address.  That letter typically arrives 5-10 days after they have shipped to RTC.

My boy called its official a sailor fo the US navy!!!! His division is hall of fame division he said for the time being he said that they could lose that if they screw up but hopefully th wont Congras to al in PIR date 09/05/14 and all before and after his graduating class!!!!

Chris musskopf....No worries. Our son got to GL on Monday Aug 18th and we got the box on the following Monday the 25th. And the box only had to go to Columbus, Oh so not very far at all..So you are still in the timeline.

Chris- we were all new to this at one time or another.....keep the faith dude!  The mantra to learn right now is "no news is good news"

Hang in there Chris.....You will learn to be patient over the next few weeks while you are waiting for the box, the Form Letter, phone calls, etc. It is the worst part of Basic...the waiting! I promise you that the "roller coaster ride" is well worth it. On the day of P.I.R., you will feel a moment of pride like no other in your life!!!
