No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Our PIR was April 8. Outstanding! As an Army brat myself and mother of 3 boys, I thought I had some idea of what to expect. Let me tell you, Nothing can prepare you for what you will experience. Best analogy I can think of is childbirth. You hear others advice and experience and you educate yourself, but until you actually go thru it, you truly have no clue. What an amazing experience for our Sailor and our entire family. Thank you RTC! Bravo Zulu ~

No PIR date given yet, but I'm speculating June 3.

Looks like my son is in Ship 2, Div 929. Any parents with children at that site, let's get together.  Thanks, Bill

It was posted about 30 min ago on RTC Facebook page: To clear up any confusion, the correct graduation day for Memorial Day weekend is Thursday, May 26.

And From RTC WEBSITE:

TG 28 —   7 Divisions (179–184 & 928) Graduate Thursday, May 26, 2011

My input:

If you have already made hotel reservations you need to go ahead and change them as well as letting you employer know you are leaving sooner. Hopefully no one made flight arrangements yet. The good news is most of you will get more time with your Sailor's YAY!!!

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Div. 136 took top honors for the all-male division; Div. 922 won the integrated trophy. Captain's Cup is a fun, friendly athletic competition between divisions that are set to graduate.

Thanks Darryl.  Good advice.

And a note to all, down the road: my son started his duty station at Norfolk VA 10 days ago, and the homesickness hit him HARD, even moreso that RTC and A School.  Keep that in mind for your recruits, so you can be ready with a kind word and firm love!  Once they get to their assignment, they are now part of a working team, and really in the adult world of military life.  We can forget, while we beam with pride, that beneath the toughened exterior lies a still young child of our hearts, still forming and developing.  I can tell you last week was more sleepless nights for me, the most since his first three weeks in Great Lakes.

Just a heads up for all and the RTC Facebook page, through Navy Moms we have learned that the RDC's, not to mention all other RTC staffers, do read the Facebook page from time to time and we have heard rumors that Recruits have taken some heat (all in good fun of course) for comments that have been put on there. Be mindful for your Recruits sake. :)
