No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Stephanie, we waited 14 days for our letter, and my wife will tell you that I was the one stalking the mailman, and I was, but it is better to wait on the form letter. Our son will PIR one week before I was thinking. He has been gone since July 29th and we haven't heard from him since, we long to just hear his voice, but I know he is being well taken care of and he is living the beginning stages of his dream.

Hi Stephanie,I know the waiting is killing you. It is best to wait for the form letter. Unfortunately you will probably have to wait 10-12 days. We waited the whole 12 and it was pure hell for my wife. She began stalking the mailman. Good luck and keep writing us. It helps. God Bless you and thanks to your son for protecting our freedom!! Go Navy!

you can estimate 8 weeks from Friday after he arrived....BUT don't count on it.  May be in a push division or holding to fill the division...wait until the form letter

So what would his PIR be if he left for Boot Camp on this past Tues? Like to know before Form letter

Also, if you're staying at the Navy Lodge for PIR, they're selling shirts in the lobby.

Stephanie:  If you go to PIR, you and your Sailor will have access to the Navy store, and they have nice NAVY MOM shirts, sweatshirts, etc., there.  My wife picked one up which says, SAILORMOM on one line, then smaller under that U. S. Navy, with the Navy insignia under that.  It is actually nice looking.  If you wear visors, I believe they have those, too.

Stephanie, my daughter got some Proud Sister decals at cafepress.com. She said they a lot of cool stuff there.

Oh, and Stephanie, I'm totally going to lose man card points by posting this, but if you are into Brighton jewelry like my wife is, she found this nice looking charm bracelet there and they had some "beads" with anchors on them. She was able to put together a nice looking bracelet for about $200. Kinda pricey, I don't know what your financial situation is like. But I know she also found a bracelet on the Armed Forces Gear site that she picked up.

Stephanie, try navy outfitters.com. Your recruiter might be able to get you bumper stickers or decals. After all you gave them your child, that's the least they could do. Lol
