No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Randy,
It does get a little easier. Our son has less than 4 weeks until PIR and the time is going fast. The first 7-12 days seemed long, but after we got our official letter with his graduation date and address it has gone by pretty fast. The couple of phone calls helped and then we started getting letters. I know it easy for me to say now that we are so close to the end, but you will also reach this point. Just remember, no news is good news because everything is going as scheduled for him. I thank him for his service and commend him for making the choice to be part of the best Navy in the world! God Bless and Go Navy!!

First post here. Leaving in a half hour to take my son to recuriter's office for his trip to the hotel, then MEPS and boot camp tomorrow. I am very excited for him to get the experience going, but a little sad to see him go too.

Sometimes you may need to ask, "May I speak with a supervisor, please."  Most times the upper-level techs will know to do the right thing.

Maybe your local news paper or news outlet would be interested in how AT&T "supports" our men and women who serve!

I mentioned several times that she was in the Navy, and each time they didn't even blink. "We'll still have to charge the $10 fee..."

I went to the store for some kind of assistance to no avail.... I think it's time to change carriers

Unfortunately at times is whoever you have on the line at that moment. If you feel that the customer service rep. is either unhelpful, confused or seems incompetent just simply hang up and call again. I've done this many times with providers and has always worked for me...

My daughter has AT&T as do I and I had no trouble getting her cell service suspended while at boot camp. When told them she was in the Navy they were beyond helpful and nice! Also had no trouble getting it turned back on the day before PIR.

Chris- I did tell AT&T that he left for boot camp and he's in the Navy. My contract ends Nov. so I switch to another company.I don't know if I can because one line is my sons.I'm getting mad at AT&T about this.

Yes, providers are different.  Just like airlines.  One airline, located shall we say in the Southwest, always at least thanks our daughter for her service when she flies just seeing the military ID and waves weight requirements on luggage with no extra charges.  Thinking about the cell phone situation, Verizon even set up a reminder and automatic date for activation, and if anything changed all we had to do was call.  The support person called the day before activation to double-check if it was still "the one" or had changed.  I remember she said, "Remind her to charge her phone, she may have a lot of messages waiting."  That was very thoughtful.  She was using her phone while deployed in airplane mode as an alarm clock.

Good to know that Chris! Yeah I'm not surprised with Verizon as they are still number one in customer service and satisfaction. Every provider operates differently. Reading through the threads online regarding military mobile phone suspension, AT&T seems to be the provider that has caused a lot of pain in the you know where. Again, that's the jist of what I've read...
