Thank you so much for the warm welcome, truly appreciate it!  My son left for boot camp yesterday, we received his phone call last night, and we're excited for him as well as so very proud.  Thanks again for having this resource available, it will make it easier for us to be engaged with him, one way or another.

Paul,
Thank you for the personal greeting. I have already found several helpful tips from this great forum, and I'm glad to be a part of it. Like your daughter Kat - I too served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, albeit briefly. After decommissioning my first ship, the USS Gray, a Knox class Frigate, I served my final four months in the Navy aboard the brand spanking new Lincoln. I never would have thought that 23 years later, one of my own boys who wasn't even born might also get stationed on her! Who knows where Nick will be stationed, but a carrier is a very good bet since he'll be an Aviation Boatswain's Mate. Thanks again for the welcome and kind words, and hat's off to you for raising two fine sailors.

Paul, Thank you for the nice reception to Navy Dads. I have been looking at this site for some time looking up information. My son went to Great Lakes 2 weeks ago so I figured it was time to be a member. Thanks for all the great information and everything you do.

Thanks for the kind words and introductory greeting Paul.  I appreciated your story about your daughter Kat who had joined the Navy in 2005.  I too have a daughter now in the Navy and it was very difficult to see her go. I have invested a great deal into my daughter and I hope her experience in the Navy is as rewarding as your daughter Kat's time.

Thanks for the welcome! The Boy (as we call him! LOL!!) is at Boot Camp now, and while I am a Navy Veteran, the boot camp seems WAAAY different then when I went through!

I have mailed him a couple of letters and I am anxiously waiting for any kind of response. He comes from a LONG line of military service! His Dad, Grandfathers, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Great-Grandfathers and on and on!

I look forward to gleaning as much info as I can from this place- looks like a great place to do so!

Thanks for the welcome. I am more comfortable using initials rather than full name and have changed my profile to reflect this

Thank you, Paul. I feel welcomed and thank you for doing what you continue to do for this website and Navy Parents. This is my son's first week at A school - NAS Pensacola - and he just got done with indoctrination. Does anyone know how long A school is for ABH? I want to be at his graduation and see him in uniform. Need to know approximate time so that I can make reservations and book leave 30 days in advance.

Thanks guys, your words are comforting. My son will leave in early December and it will be a big change for the family. Even though I’m very familiar with the Navy, having served for 21 years and retiring close to 12years now it just seems so very different when it’s my kid.
I currently work on the Norfolk Naval Base and see awesome young sailors each day, but it’s just now sinking in that my son will be one of them.
I’m trying to better understand the procedural processes, boy have they changed. From what I’ve read todays sailor is so much better prepared for Great Lakes and then on to their rating school. Mine will be heading to Charleston SC for a very long school pipeline. He’s a smart kid, but this nuke program will really challenge him.
This is a site I’m sure to spend lots of time with.
Thanks for what you guys are doing.
Mike
