Hello Navy Dads!!!  I'm new here, and just looking for moms and dads of US Navy Rescue Swimmers like me to share experiences. My Sailor is San Diego, and just finished his SERE training.  It was an intense experience, he lost 21 pounds, among other experiences. Anyone with sailors in North Island base?

My son Mark has been accepted as a early entry into Air Rescue swimmer training. I'm sure it will be a fun 5 weeks..

Thanks Dale and Chuck. We are very excited for him and the communication lines are open. So far he has been keeping us informed.

Congrats Russell! Today marks my sons 1 year anniversary from the day he was sworn in. It's been amazing watching his progress. Enjoy it!

Welcome Russell. Mark should enjoy the eventual freedom and the next part, Aircrew.

My sailor is now in Pensacola to start AIRR training. He is Phase 1 for 2 weeks. Let the journey begin

Thanks Chuck and Scott. Sound advice. I believe he has that mind set. I am glad your sons got through it all, and that you guys can help out.

Chuck is right on the money. Another word I would say is paramount for their vocabulary is "relentless". My son was relentless in everything they threw at him. I taught my children that you cannot fail until you quit trying. Needless to say, I am very proud of my Rescue Swimmer son.

As long as he refuses to quit under any circumstances then he will make it. They're going to try to get him to quit. They want to know that there's no quit in these guys. My sons foot swelled up like a cantaloupe during his last few days of training. He drained it in his barracks with a knife, and wrapped it up tight for his last run. In total pain the whole time. but there was no way he was going to medical unless he was dragged there by force. These young men, and women, know what they have in them. So let him know, expect the curve balls, expect to be miserable and question your decision at certain times. These guys are putting him in that position on purpose. But to stay focused and remember that it's one day at a time and no matter what, just dont quit. Get quit completely out of your vocabulary and you will make it.

Thanks Chuck. I have heard that about SERE. Physically he seems ahead, it is always those unknowns they throw at them are the concern.
