Navy Dads

My son has been at A school for about a week now and is having trouble with his room mate. My son is 24 and his room mate 18. In this room there are two of everything, but the 18 year old uses my son's desk and sink leaving a mess. My son has tried to talk to this guy, but he just doesn't care. He keeps telling my son to shut up, what do you think your the alpha male here?

I told my son to sit him down again and explain how things need to be if they are going to be room mates for the next five months. If this doesn't work and my son goes through the chain of command do you think someone will be moved or will they be told to tough it out?

Any input please

Pete

My daughter had similar bad roommate problems. After many conflicts and problems that came to the attention of some officers it eventually wound up being hashed out with their officers. You're right to have them try and work it out. Going to the next level got a bit messy for both corpsmen, and brought up the possibility of disciplinary action. Toughing it out is not a great alternative he needs to be comfortable in his own quarters.

I'm guessing here, but I think they'll tell you it relates to teamwork. Might be time to take someone out behind the woodshed? Just kidding.... But I know when my son was in bootcamp and his partner's bed wasn't made and the CO came in and was asking my son why the bed wasn't made. My son said, "It's not my bed." "WRONG ANSWER!" Teamwork.... I know bootcamp is a little different, but still....

It has been a couple of years now. How did this situation go?

Pete - Thanks for responding. My daughter is in boot camp, and will be going on to HM A-school after. Yep, a lot of lifer military folks lament the current state of the military. My dad was a lifer too, and he's not too impressed. I'm an officer in the military so, if I get the sense that the command isn't doing something right, I'll try to put in a word or two.

Best Regards,

Walter
