Thank you both for the quick acceptance and insight you've offered.  I wish I would have found this site prior to my son's PIR.  He's just bagan A school and I think I'm more excited than he is.  I did review the OPSEC link, I get it.  I too am very proud of my son.  He is the first in my immediate family to serve our country.  Thanks agin guys............KEV

Hi Jim,

I thought it was odd she asked for my address. She probably meant email but either way. Thanks for following up.

Jim,

Thanks to you and Paul for a great web site and all that you do on FB as well.  While both my dad and my wife's father served in WWII, neither of us or our siblings served in the military.  When our daughter went off to law school the Navy was not a part of her plans.  However, while in law school she met some great folks who attended the Naval Academy, served their initial commitment and then took a break from service to attend law school before going back active in the JAG Corps.  The rest is history as it was a great decision and she has loved every bit of her service as a Navy JAG officer.

Thanks again, great web site.

Nick

Oh wow, thank you guys for the warm welcome! My son has just enlisted. This is a whole new adventure for us as a family and we are so proud of him. I'm sure I'm going to use all the wrong vocabulary words for what I try to say. And, oh boy, what about those acronyms?  I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions as I work to catch up!

Thanks for the welcoming message. Even though I am an Army veteran, I am very proud that my grandson made a very mature decision to become a naval officer. He is doing great and my wife and I look forward to his graduation ceremony.

Jim, thank you for your welcome note and for making yourself available to those of us new to this experience.  Like you I have been impressed by my son's mature decision making and the commitment he's shown in joining and participating in DEP.  I look forward to the journey.

Thank you again!

Hi,Jim!

Being a Vet, I knew my Son made the best decision. He didn't want to tell me he went Navy, fearing I would be unhappy since he didn't go Army like me. I didn't ( and don't )  care which branch he chose, I just wanted the best for him. The amount of growth I've seen in his letters is a Blessing. I hope your Son is doing well... I understand the shock of not realizing his plans can be overwhelming , but GOD does have his hand in all our kids do. I am dismayed they only give him the day for Liberty - I got the weekend when I finished Basic Training, and I didn't even think to check if things had changed since 1979.

OOOPS!

GOD bless you for your service to Navy Dads... and thank you for your quick response!!

Thank you for sharing. My son will be honored on the last deployment of the vessel he was assigned to. I had the heart to heart that he MAY be called to the supreme sacrifice, but he assured me he understood. We both know he will see the Lord if that happens. WOW, what a great young man has emerged - GO NAVY!

I agree with you, Jim.  The decision of my Son to enlist was well researched and thought out.  The most mature decision he has made.  I am confident he will do well.

Thanks Jim, I have no idea what to expect. I don't know his motivation for joining or wanting to become a SEAL other than he's always challenging himself.
