Navy Dads

This enlistment program option enables men and women to eventually qualify for one of several Navy ratings (skill specialties) through on-the-job Airman Professional Career Track (PACT) training.

The program also offers apprenticeship training in a rating that may not be available at the time of enlistment.

After completion of recruit training, enlistees in the PACT program will attend a three-week Airman Common Core course on basic theory in Aviation operations and evolutions. After successful completion of this training, Airman are usually assigned to aviation duties where the Navy needs them the most.

Airmen can request, and may receive on-thejob training in a rating that they are interested in, qualified for, and is available at their first command, by completing rate training manual courses and personal qualification standards requirements. They must also be recommended by their commanding officer for the Navy rating they desire.

Airman may also attend Navy schools to learn about general damage control, fire fighting, preventive maintenance of special equipment, and the use of special tools used in the rating they are working in or seeking.

What They Do

The duties performed by Airman include:

• repairing, maintaining and stowing aircraft and associated equipment in preparation for flight operations.

• working with qualified personnel to gain job training and experience.

• performing ground and deck duties involved in the take-off and landing of aircraft;

• standing security watches on flight lines or decks;

• doing temporary duty for 90-120 days with food services divisions;

• serving as members of crash crews and security alert teams;

Qualifications and Interests

Airman must be able to get along well with others and to speak clearly. Other qualities include resourcefulness, a good memory, curiosity, physical strength, and manual dexterity, the ability to work as a team member and to perform repetitive tasks.

Advancement

Enlistees enter the Navy as E-1s (Airman Recruits). Advancement to E-2 (Airman Apprentice) may be achieved after nine months of successful naval service, with advancement to E-3 (Airman) after an additional nine months.

Career Path After Recruit Training

After completion of recruit training, enlistees in the Airman Professional Career Track (PACT) training program attend a three-week course on basic theory in aviation fundamental skills. After successful completion of this training, airman apprentices are usually assigned to squadrons or other aviation commands where the Navy needs them the most.

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Navy updated the Professional Apprenticeship Career Track (PACT) program policy in NAVADMIN 118/18, released May 14.

The NAVADMIN announced comprehensive policy and process changes to the enlisted PACT program outlined in Military Personnel Manual (MILPERSMAN) 1306-611. The changes were made to provide PACT Sailors with the ability to plan for their future career in the Navy and to reduce unplanned losses for Fleet manning.

Effective 1 June 2018, PACT Sailors will be designated based on their selection of a prioritized job in a rating for which they are qualified. Enlisted Community Managers (ECM) will begin to designate PACT Sailors, starting with those who have been enrolled in the program the longest.

Twelve months prior to a PACT Sailor's projected rotation date (PRD), they may begin the designation and assignment negotiation process.

Commands will continue to use the Career Waypoints-PACT (C-WAY-PACT) designation module for PACT Sailor applications.

Once designated, eligible PACT Sailors may be eligible for Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB). The latest SRB NAVADMIN outlines the SRB eligibility requirements.

PACT Sailors willing to volunteer for additional obligated service (OBLISERV) to complete the sea tour for their new rating, or for a minimum of 24 months of additional sea time, whichever is greater, may be authorized immediate advancement to E4, with commanding officer approval.

Command leadership and PACT Sailors are required to ensure training records and qualifications are up-to-date to facilitate the order negotiation process.

PACT Sailors interested in expanding their available conversion opportunities should contact their command career counselor for information about additional Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) testing opportunities.
