You are correct...  One of the policies that the students are briefed on is the need for security of the status and condition of any naval reactor operation including the status of the Prototypes.  This information directly reflects on the status and availability of trained personnel to operate the active nuclear forces.  Information about the status and conditions of the prototypes should not be discussed by the students and especially not discussed by the parents and family of the students.  Your understanding of this policy is appreciated.

maintenance issues and problems should not be discussed....

and clearly reactor status (thanks Tom for pointing that out)

Are there OPSEC concerns with regard to discussions about the status of the prototype reactors?

We've got 2 spare rooms - come on out!

I drove up this past Saturday. Not bad at all. The ride was hell with all the fog and the torrential down pours. By the time we left it was pretty much a drizzle at best.

As far as B's Mom 80 degree weather........hope you have a spare room for the rest of the winter.......lol

mlongst - glad to hear your son has recovered and is back on track.

Our sailor made it to NY on Saturday and he said the weather wasn't too bad - still had some snow on the ground but most from the big storm last week has melted.  Here at home we are supposed to be back up into the 80's this week with lots of wind - they have us on fire alert through Wednesday.

B'sNukemom&dad,  and other headed for BS,  congrats on your sailors acheivments.  They picked a good week to arrive.  I live about 2 hrs south of BS ,  it's supposed to be in the upper 40's or low 50's  this week,  not 0 to 10 like last week.  Visited my son in Goose Creek week before Christmas it was 75-80 each day.

After breaking his ankle in August and being in recovery/hold mode for 4 months my son is back on crew and expecting to finish prototype  at Goose Creek in April.  I would definitely be interested in the  challenge coin.  I gave my son a couple  of the coins for Christmas and he was very excited about them.

A little more 411 on the Ballston Spa Reactor status.  Our son who is in proto type there now was told it is getting shut down at the end of XXXXXXXXXXXX, his class is hoping to be able to complete their training by then (were graduating Mid April). No info was given on how long the shut down will be.

So any one headed up now will be running into a delay in training, or will be starting and then placed on hold, once it goes down.

My son is due to complete Prototype in Goose Creek at the end of February. This has been an exciting journey with his sister just having CTI training in Monterey. It has been tough with them being at opposite sides of the country. I couldn't be prouder of them. I would be interested in the challenge coins. Let me know when they are available and I will be glad to contribute to help defray the cost.
