  • It was a great fly over! Timing was perfect!

  • Nice!!!!

  • So proud of our Son and the other Navy personnel involved with the 100th Indianapolis 500 Race Flyover. There were 2 Growlers from Washinton State and 4 F-18 Super Hornets from Oceana Virgina Beach. The record crowds of over 350,000 people cheered, clapped, saluted when they heard the jets. Timing was perfect even with the program running about 8minutes late. Was suppose to flyover at 12:04 but was not able to until about 12:12. Fans, tv personalities, the Speedway said "Was best flyover ever".

    NAS Oceana Air Show

    September 19-20, 2015

  • Well it's time for things to slow back down.  The week after Thanksgiving we drove to Oceana, watched my son re-enlist, spent a few days with him giving us the nickel tour and then hauled him back home with us.

He spent his two week leave visiting, hunting squirrels and just being lazy.

We had a pre Christmas dinner for him Saturday night and put him on a plane Sunday morning.

I'm thankful for the time with him but really wish it could be a little longer.

  • So proud of my sailor! He will be receiving the Information Dominance Warfare pin after scoring a 96 on the initial exam; passed the PO1 board oral exam (5 solid hours of questioning) and then the CPO board oral exam. Additionally, he just took the E-5 exam in September. He will not get those results until November. Quite a run so far for only 17 months in the Navy!
  • I did not even know there was a Blue Blaster family picnic.

  • My wife is flying into Norfolk Wednesday with a suitcase full of fresh bratwursts for the Blue Blaster family picnic on Saturday.

Navy Housing question

Good afternoon all!  I'm new to this group and I have some questions.  Our son is currently in his "A" school at Ft Sam Houston for HM.  He's hoping that he'll get selected for Orthopedic Technician for his "C" school and is asking for Norfolk as his duty station.  He and his Girlfriend just got engaged and plan to be married prior to the end of their "C" schools.  They should both be HM3s when they graduate.  My questions: is where is Petty Officer Family housing on base?  Is there adequate…

The informal appelation honors the fact that between 1790 and 1798, there was no United States Navy and the cutters which were the predecessor of the US Coast Guard were the…
