Hi Douglas - We were hoping to go to the meet and greet, so if we arrive in time, and are feeling up to it after the journey, we will see you there. If not, we can try to catch up at the hotel.
We just got a letter from our son today, and he tells us he is the relief RPOC, Athletic Petty Officer, Yeoman & Guide On. Does anyone know what all this means!?
OK - I just read some other articles and found out what RPOC and Yeoman are. I am guessing the Athletic PO means he has some responsibility for training, but I can't find anything about Guide On.

Buzz, We will look forward to meeting up there. Are you going to the Ramada that even for the ladies meet and greet? My wife is all excited to meet her new friends so I think we will try to at least make it there even if for a few minutes.
Hi Douglas - It would be great to meet up and say "Hi". I will look you up when we arrive at the hotel. We also fly in Thursday evening.
I have a couple of questions for anyone that may be able to help :-
1) We are going to be a party of five, with the youngest being 12 years old. Does anyone know if I will need another pass for the 5th person, or will it be ok, seeing as he is only 12 years old?
2) I think our son is staying at GL after graduation, and will be going through DC training there, until he becomes a US Citizen, and is able to do what he really wants to do in the Navy. Does anyone know if I will be able to bring his cell and laptop? I have heard you can't give them these things at GL, but don't know if that's true if they are staying there for their A class.
Buzz, we are staying at the Marriot also and flying in Thursday afternoon. We are all booked so I sure hope that the date and time does not get changed.

Thanks for the advise Paul. Both really good tips (the "PIR Tips & Hints", and the recent posting you mentioned). Looks like the Milwaukee option is a good one, and having checked flights & prices, AirTran do a great deal on direct flights from San Francisco. I made a mistake - we are booked in the Marriott Residence Inn (not the Ramada Inn!), but we will try and get over to the Meet and Greet anyway. Does anyone have any advise on the likelihood of the PIR date getting changed? We are trying to figure out when we should book flights, and the price difference for refundable tickets is HUGE, especially as there is only a $75 change fee with AirTran!

Buzz....spend some time in the PIR- Tips and Hints group (go to the groups tab at teh top of the page...you'll see it featured)
I flew into Midway for one of my PIRs and into O'Hare for my other PIR....if I was to do it again.......Milwaukee is the only way to go. Click this link for a very recent posting about PIR and flying into Milwaukee

My wife and I will be traveling up on Thursday (11th). We will be staying at the Ramada Inn. So looking forward to seeing our boy. Has anyone else heard the same "rumblings" that have been posted on the NavyForMoms site, about some of the recruits talking back to the trainers? Does anyone know if there is any benefit to flying into Chicago vs. Milwaukee?
