1st Call Today

I received my first call today from my SR. She was very emotional throughout the entire conversation, and it was very hard to hear her. She said she had been sick for a while, although I didn't quite get why. I tried to reassure her how much we love her, how proud we were and how strong she is, and that we were very confident she could do it!! Is it normal for these calls to be emotional? I'm hoping that if she is having trouble coping, they will help support her as they show in some of the videos.

  • There are a few ways they get sick early on. When my sailor was in, the entire division was sick.

First off, they load them up with this peanut butter shot that can have adverse effects.

Secondly, many have their wisdom teeth pulled, which can cause all sorts of adverse effects and take them out of commission for a couple days or longer.

Thirdly, they are working hard with little sleep and their immune systems are down. Not to mention they're in a room with people from all over the country who may be carrying many different germs.

Bottom line, the first few weeks are tough. However, after the third week, things start easing up for them and they tend to fall in line. Stay confident the next call will be better. Good luck to your SR.

  • My step-son is in 020 and we are waiting for a call.

  • My daughter was sobbing during her first call that I almost couldn't understand her.  Her first letters were pretty sad and homesick also.  Next call was better and last two was a completely different person.  She got to where she was excited for training and upbeat.  It will get better!  Seem like she just left for boot camp and PIR is next week.  Can't wait to see her.

  • Well we wish her and you the best.
  • My Daughter is 019.

  • We also received a call today from our son. He sounded pretty good. He is in 023 and has a sister company of 024. Is this your daughters company?
