If any of you have a Sailor who has a completed college degree, this pertains to them. There are instances where college degrees have NOT been incorporated into all of the proper military systems. The Navy is giving out extra Points towards promotions for having completed a college degree. These extra points, could be the deciding factor if your Sailor is promoted over others who do not have a college degree.
You may remember reading that Sailors would be able to earn 2 exam points for an Associates degree, or 4 points for a Bachelor’s degree on
the Fall 2008 exam cycle. Educational transcripts and records need to be submitted to the Navy College Office by 1 SEP to be counted. Points will be awarded for the highest degree held, and will increase the overall final multiple score(FMS) points with no reduction in points from other factors.

Sailors:
(1) If they have a degree, double check that it's on their SMART
transcript (https://smart.navy.mil).
(2) If they don't have a degree -- What's their plan get one?

That is a true statement: The students academic standing has everything to do with the student being offered a 'C' school. Not all students will be offered one, and not all students will attend a 'C' school directly after Corpsman 'A' school.
The downside, is that the 'C' school being offered to the over achievers may not be the school the student wants to specialize in. However, if there are two or more 'C' schools with openings, the students have a chance to choose which one they wish to attend.
In my son's case, he was offered, "Surgical Technician". He turned it down, because he said that was not the field he wished to specialize in. He wanted Radiology. I know my military experience is rather dated, however, in my day, you never turned down any opportunities. The reason is, you may never be offered another opportunity again! This was not the case, my son turned down the school, was shipped out to 29 Palms and worked the BAS clinic until he attended FMTB, (about 6 month wait). At FMTB graduation, he was ordered back to 29 Palms and served there 3 years, (one tour of duty). Prior to his completing his tour of duty at 29 Palms he submitted a request for Advanced Radiology 'C' school and was selected. A miracle in and of itself.
Some 'C' schools are highly competitive and the detailer receives thousands of applications Navy wide for only 150 available seats per year.
TIP: Once a Sailor submits a package (a request for) to a 'C' school, stay on top of it, where is it at, is the package considered complete by the detailer etc... My son almost missed getting selected to the school because the detailer lost some of his information. I had to knee jerk, rather quickly, and fax copies directly to the detailer and follow-up with phone calls to ensure receipt.
Ensure your Sailor has copies of everything in a separate folder of the entire package they submit to the detailer. It is also highly advisable for your Sailor to keep copies of ALL evaluations, awards, certificates, school completion certificates, shot records, everything that is in his service record book etc...in a separate folder. These are necessary, because things do get lost and they are needed to verify they actually attended a school or were awarded something.
Also, it is advisable that the Sailor keep a running log of all achievements or collateral duties and activities. At the end of the year, they have to fill out a 'brag' sheet, which is a form letting their supervisors know all of what they did throughout the year. The supervisor will use this information when completing their evaluations. Supervisors don't always remember everything a junior Sailor has accomplished. This is the time for the Sailor to 'ring' his own bell.
At evaluation time, the Navy will look at the 3C's.
What have you done for the Command? (Extra collateral duties, volunteering).
What have you done for the Community? (volunteering out in the community)
What have you done for College or continuing education. (What courses or degrees completed).
