Boot Camp Graduation

I have been told that only 4 family members may attend the ceremony and that only one car may park. Any reliable info here?

  • my daughter graduated today (ship 12 div 126) and it was absolutely fantastic. There were 6 of us, but my daughter was able to put two on shipmates lists. what a beautiful event, and as a father it really makes you proud of how far they have come. I would recommend that everyone go to one. we stayed in Gurnee Mills area and got there in no time at all. message me if you need any travel tips

  • It all depends on how many divisions are graduating. We brought 8 people to 4/6/12 PIR..not to many divisions. We brought 2 cars. They will check I.D. at second gate towards graduation hall. But were it really counts is when you get into the hall they will check roster,I.D., and sailor graduating. Your sailor should be able to tell you in better detail on how many people can go.

  • hey for the october 14 graduation there are 11 divisions graduating....it even says right on there how many will be graduating on the particular day

  • Nothing like trying. If there is room they might allow others to enter. There was a group in front of us at my son's PIR 9/23 and they had more than 8 people in one group so you never know.

I'm glad I read this thread. My inlaws are all from Maryland and were going to go to Great Lakes for PIR instead of coming all the way to Oklahoma for HS graduation. I guess we better rethink that.
  • Actually they do. When you pass through the first gate they check id's. Then you go through another check point which has a metal detector, here they check id's match the person as well. Then you go through one more check point. At this check point they ask the division number and name. Then you have to show your id's again and they check you off the list. This is how they did it for us on 9/23/2011 PIR.

Ouch! I'm not sure if he can ad her to the list. I can't see them turning away the stepmom at the gate. We had a family member not on the list and he made it in. We all showed up in the same car. That is the easy part. After you park you then go into a building where they check to see if you are on the list. ( this is a mad house ) I don't even think they really checked to see if the names matched. Once you reach that point I can't see them turning your wife away because it would be more trouble in my opinion to send her back. Just show up early. This is just my opinion and I would advise your wife to definitly show up with you. On a foot note slap your son upside the head for that. My son tryed the same thing. Family is always family and girlfriends can come and go. No offense to the girlfriend. I hope everyone makes it in. Best of Luck.
  • Only 4 adults are allowed on the list but you could write to your son and see if it would be okay for her to get added on or not. It all depends on how many divisions are graduating that day. My son's PIR they had 520 sailors graduate, but there is no harm in trying. Not all guests show up, my father-in-law wasn't able to attend so that left 2 from my son's group not attending. Perhaps they will have enough room to add your wife.

My son has PIR 10/14 and it looks like there are 4 divisions graduating that day.  My wife (step mom) wants to be there but she would make 5 adults.  Do I need to have my son add her to the list or will she be able to get in?  Anyone's experience would help.  Thanks,

  • We eventually got 13 people inside the building for PIR.  They seat the people with passes then whoever is left may get seated.  Family can wait outside and see their sailor even if they don't get inside.

  • If you read through the PIR Group you'll see this posting by RTC:

The recruits have until about a week prior to graduation to make any changes to the access list. If it's too late to make any changes, then the additional guest(s) wait inside the visitors center until after the guests on the access list have been seated. If additional seating is available, then the additional guests will be allowed into the drill hall on a first-come, first-served basis as space permits

According to the Navy Boot Camp website : http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp

The 10/14/11 PIR is  TG 48, with 11 Divisions.  Some of the postings on the PIR thread here indicate that "extras" have gotten in, although the official Graduation information says "only 4".  Someone out there may be able to give you better info.
