AC, AW, AIRR ????

Hi Dads, My son has been in DEP now for over a year. His ship date is Sep 13, 2010. So I have a couple of questions. The navy changed him over from AC to AW, and now I think it is AIRR. Can someone fill me in on what that means? I have read through his contract, but it is sparse on details.

  • Brent, it appears he will be trying to be a Rescue Swimmer now. While it may state AIRR eventually he needs another rate to go with it, like AW. AW will allow a combination of rescue swimmer duties and anti-sub warfare type duties. He will go to Pensacola first for RSS, then on to FRAC to get through aircrew school to eventually get his wings. This is a long but rewarding process. If you would like to ask more questions of other parents who have gone through this, please join my group for Rescue Swimmers. I hope this has been helpful.
