We just stayed at the Navy Lodge Great Lakes for our son's PIR last week. The location is excellent as it is only minutes from the ceremony, situated in the midst of base housing, a city block from a NEX Mart that you can visit with a card given at the Lodge during check in (can purchase anything but alcohol and cigarettes), clean, comfortable and quiet rooms all supported with an excellent staff at a most affordable price point!
I had someone tell me that: "Sailors who are IN A-School in GL (NOT Sailors graduating from RTC on PIR weekend) CANNOT go inside Navy Lodge or Navy Gateway while they are at TSC Great Lakes.". Is that true? And if so, why?

you can also review our Lodging Guide at: http://www.navydads.com/group/pirtipshintsandhelps/forum/topics/gre...
Navy Lodge is reasonable ($65/night) and close to the base....but it fills up very fast. Link: https://www.navy-lodge.com/lodge_page.html?p_lodge_number=5
