Aircrewman FTS

Great to find a site like this.  For 4 years my son has talked about enlisting.  Had his HS graduation a week ago and off to MEPS he went.  I liked his recruiter and the other guys in his office and my wife and I felt like we could trust them.  He had a goal that he wanted to be in spec ops and had his path to it.  When he went to MEPS however the coerced him into joining the NR instead of Active.  Recruiter told my wife and I he would be placed in the DEP until he left in Oct.  When he asked the counselor about it as he saw it on his F4, they told him all the contracts say that and not to worry about it as he was on IIR until he left for BC.  What they told him was BS obviously and put him in AIRC/FTS which is basically training other reservists and not what they told him.  Now we face a dilemma.  Apparently when you sign a NR contract, that's all there is, your in.  Unlike an active contract where you sign 2.  Now what do we do?  Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Hi Adam:

I am replying because I noticed it has been about twelve hours since you submitted your post.   Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your question.   I do know, however, there are some very talented sources of wisdom and information at this site available to guide you and your family.   All the best as all of you move forward.   ~ Pat Doherty    (we had a Ship5 experience that, thankfully, ended favorably.  Be Well.
