Good afternoon,
My son left MEPS on 18 March. We got our form letter to tell us he's on Ship 12. Over the weekend his division was able to make a call home. I can't tell you how that picked up the spirits for our family. I'm a retired sailor (IMC) and having now experienced this part of the separation from this end is a new experience. As a retired Chief we always consider ourselves as ready to serve. I'd like to extend to all your sons & daughters a hearty "welcome to our ranks". And to the parents a thank you for raising your children in a manner that they considered service to their country as a part of their life.
This navydads site is great for information about the navy, even for an old fart like me. There has been so many changes over the years, it helps me keep up when my son talks about his boot camp experiences. I'd also like to recommend going to Facebook and find the PIR 05-15-15 Navy Boot Camp group. My wife found other moms to talk to and share her concerns.
For you landlubbers out there I'm an Army dad too. My oldest son is a helo pilot with 12 years in. I won't tell you how much gray hair I have.

Excellent, she is in the triple threat. You'll be amazed at how much they can learn and perfect in just 2 months. This time I'll actually be able to see them at the graduation. 33 years ago when I was in the ranks all we could hear was the applause, we couldn't see the show.
