Does anyone happen to have any information regarding ground transportation from BDL or PVD to the Naval Submarine School in Groton, CT? My son will be graduating boot camp in December and reporting to Groton after the holidays. I must forward an itinerary to him prior to his graduation and I am having trouble locating reasonable ground transportation from BDL or PVD. I am a West Coast sailor and not familiar with the area. The school site does not list any recommended means of transportation.

  • Keith,

When I spoke with the duty office, they claimed the duty driver position was manned 24/7.

I want to book a flight for my son who goes off to submarine school the end of December. I am wondering if a 17:00 arrival is too later for the duty driver to pick him up at the airport in Hartford. Anyone have any idea or experience with this?

    Keith,

I called the school's duty office this morning and they have a "duty driver" that will pickup the reporting students at BDL or PVD. According to the person I spoke with, the new students will have an assigned facilitator who should have airport and flight information for the incoming students and will coordinate their ground transportation. I am assuming this is part of the reason why we have to send their itineraries to the "Scheduling Office" (Scheduling.Office@navy.mil) by December 7th.
Just incase they arrive home for the holiday break without confirmation that their ground transportation has been arranged, we can call the duty office (860-694-3748) before they start the return trip with their arrival information and they will make sure the duty driver picks them up.

Hopefully, our sailors will have all this information prior to the end of boot camp and the start of their holiday leave.
