Just found out about this place. I just sent my youngest to boot camp earlier this month. He is going to be a Corpsman.
Got the first phone call on Saturday. He sounds great and seems to be settling in well.
He said he's only been singled out once for verbal abuse. A fellow recruit was getting yelled at, and my kid coughed. Unfortunately, when he coughed he also laughed. So he got some special 'one on one counseling' from the drill instructor (not sure what they call them in the Navy). The counseling ended with my son being told to go stand in front of a mirror for awhile so he could see what an ****ole looks like. lol.
My kid said all is well now, though, as the same drill instructor called him into his office the next day and said he would be getting some new responsibilities. He is already in charge of checking the uniforms and bunks of his fellow recruits to get ready for inspections, etc.
He loves the Navy gear he's getting. He said when he got his uniform he had a big smile on his face that wouldn't go away even when they immediately made them do a lot of P.T. when they got to put them on.
He's passed his swimming qualification and his P.T. test so everything is going well so far.
Anyway, just wanted to say 'Hi' to everyone on here, looking forward to reading everybodies insights and opinions and learning things. I've had a kid go through Army basic training, Cav Scout training, and then officer training, but this is my first Navy kid. I'm already very proud of him and looking forward to learning all things Navy.

Thanks. I joined the boot camp group, so I'll have to do the same with PIR. Already got my plane tickets and hotel reservations for the 7-12 PIR and I am very much looking forward to it. So - RDC - got it. May take me awhile but I'll figure it out eventually. lol.
