Challenge Coins

The subject of Challenge Coins comes up every once in a while....I am in the process of building a holder for son Eric's Challenge Coins and I wanted a couple more to fill out his collection and give some balance to the display.  I've known about Northwest Territorial Mint for a long time, but this is the first time I've ordered from them.....I got three...one for Naval Base Norfolk, one for his rate (AM) and one for Kaneohe Bay.  Had the AM coin engraved with his name....total cost for all three with shipping- $42 and about 5 days wait...pretty reasonable.  Check them out at (this link to their Navy stuff): https://store.nwtmint.com/Navy/

  • Now if I only had about 250-300 more sq feet of workshop and about $5K in power tools it would make this stuff much easier!!!!  Essentially all I have is a 35yr old Wards (PowerKraft) radial arm saw and a bench top drill press, a 30-yr old Black and Decker router, and assorted hand tools......

  • this is going to be sandwiched between glass so you can see face and obverse of the coins......and correct with the assumption about the holes for the coins...

  • Love that Rosewood Paul!!!! And the cherry is a great compliment to it as well. I'll be checking back in to see what you come up with! So the holes are going to fit the coins diameter? Am I envisioning this correctly?

  • new Challenge coin holder in the works.....

rosewood/cherry glued up and sanded down....frame on hand, glass on hand, plaque on hand....

getting close....have to bore the holes for the coins, finish sand, finish and assemble...

  • Paul, great looking coin displays my friend!!!!!!! If you have any other woodworkers here and would like to help out throughout the year, we build the displays at www.thepatriotwoodworker.com and we send them to The Wounded Warrior Project for our wounded troops. Our last shipment went out to Bethesda Naval Hospital. The Sailors and Marines loved them!

Great looking displays here, and thank you dads and moms for your loved ones service to our country.
