Cryptologic Technician Technical
CTT
Cryptologic Technicians (Technical) perform a variety of specialized duties associated with the collection and processing of airborne, shipborne, and land-based radar signals. They operate electronic intelligence receiving and direction finding systems, digital recording devices, analysis terminals, and associated computer equipment. Systems they operate produce high-power jamming signals used to deceive electronic sensors and defeat radar guided weapons systems. Additionally, intelligence derived from collection and processing update national databases which are crucial to tactical and strategic units throughout the world.

What they do

The duties performed by CTTs include:

• operating sophisticated collection and analysis systems on surface, subsurface, and airborne platforms, as well as at shore locations worldwide;

• providing tactical support and Indications and Warnings (I&W) of emerging and potential threats against Naval units.

• working with highly classified and technical material in support of national security;

• tracking surface and airborne targets of interest to determine defensive maneuvers and tactics in case of attack;

• operating electronic detection and deception systems;

• operating state-of-the-art electronic receivers, signal modifiers, digital recording devices and associated peripherals in collection of airborne, shipborne, and land based radar signals;

• performing in-depth technical analysis of radar signals/systems to produce technical reports and briefs for operational facilities in the United States, Hawaii, Japan, Spain, Great Britain, Australia, and various remote sites throughout the world;

• creating and maintaining technical databases used by local and national level agencies.

Qualifications and Interests

Due to the nature of duties performed, applicants for CTT must be of exceptionally good character. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet eligibility requirements for continuous access to classified information. Eligibility for a top-secret clearance is determined by the results of a Single Scope Background Investigation. Other important qualifications include, resourcefulness, curiosity, a good memory, an aptitude for mathematics, the ability to work in a dynamic environment and combine various sources of information into a coherent picture. Normal hearing, speech, sight and color perception is required.

Opportunities

For those choosing to make a career of the Navy the CTT rating offers a diverse and exciting career path including high-profile intelligence collection and reporting, instructing at shore commands, and managing operational facilities. A relatively small and elite community, approximately 3,000 men and women work within the CTT rating. CTTs also learn computer and intelligence processing skills that transfer directly to the civilian job market. They utilize computer databases extensively to analyze electronic intelligence. The security clearance required to enlist as a CTT assists in attaining civilian jobs that demand a high level of trust.

Navy CTT - Electronic Intelligence Analyst

ELINT ANALYSTS (Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) Analysts) manage and conduct research and signals analysis of RADAR signals gleaned from worldwide technical ELINT collection and production resources, analyze and report all-source information for tactical and strategic commanders in support of battle force and national intelligence objectives. Produces assessments detailing the capabilities and vulnerabilities of foreign radar and radar-controlled weapons systems. Operate processing, transmission, analysis, and storage systems to include Tactical Data Distribution System (TDDS), Standard TRE Display (STRED), GALE-LITE, INTELINK, and WRANGLER. Provide capabilities, limitations, tasking, and validation processes of various national and conventional intelligence collections and processing systems, using OPELINT with COMINT, IRINT, IMINT, RADINT, and PROFORMA. Use specialized analysis and decision support software to ensure assessments are accurately reflected in the national technical ELINT Reference and emitter characterization files (KILTING and EPL). Directly support organizations charged with developing weapons systems and electronic countermeasures and to formulate tactics and operational deployment strategies.

Navy CTT - Operations Technician

OPERATIONS TECHNICIANs operate sophisticated, state-of-the-art, electronic receivers, shipboard systems that produce high-power electronic signals used to deceive and jam enemy electronic sensors, signal modifiers, magnetic recording devices and associated peripherals in the collection of airborne, shipborne and land-based radar signals. Responsible for interpreting incoming electronic signals to determine their source and location, maintaining the tactical ELINT picture. Utilizes computer databases to analyze the electronic intelligence they receive Responsible for the maintenance and repair of EW associated equipment onboard Naval vessels. Responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all EW equipment and associated material for their respective platforms including the AN/SLQ-32, AN/ULQ-16, AN/SLA-10, SRBOC and PCMS systems. Responsible for IW Strike Group readiness. Ensure the meeting of all IW mission objectives. Develop Strike Group and unit level spectrum management plans, IW Doctrines, emission control (EMCON) plans, and pre-planned responses. Schedule training to maintain CTT readiness.
