Hi All,

My recruit (my brother in law) arrived at RTC June 7. Does anyone else have recruits who arrived around that day? We can share this discussion thread - we will be going through this 8 weeks together here on this forum, while our recruits go through their challenges together.

First item I wanted to throw out there - We are eager to buy plane tickets for graduation (knowing the date may change) - we're going to buy on Southwest so if the date changes, we don't have to pay a change fee.

We've gotten the box and the 15-second phone call, but of course no other mail yet - does anyone know when PIR should be for those who arrived June 7? I've read the articles on length of boot camp, and am having trouble figuring out the 8-weeks plus Processing with enough certainty to buy our tickets. It looks like the PIR/grad date is possibly July 29, but maybe it's Aug 5.

Here's what I've put together as possible schedules. If anyone knows for sure, or if others know what day their recruits arrived and then graduated (with no delays for injury, retraining, etc), please post here for all to have a firm grasp of the timing. Thank you!

  • Yippee!!!  We got our form letter and PIR date in the mail today.  Jonathan got into a "Spec Ops" division - said it's extra challenging, but we don't know more than that at the moment.  He had been trying to get into a special program, so had been doing a lot of physical fitness on his own.  Now the countdown can begin.  I'm not much for long letters (as if he'd have time to read them), so I'm going to go get some generic postcards, maybe even just plain ones, and try to ensure I write at least a few lines and drop one in the mail almost every single day.  When I was in my version of boot camp, (Air Force ROTC Field Training), any kind of mail was welcome - long or short.  Thanks all.
  • I just spoke to Jill's recruiter.  He said that he will receive graduation date info but we should receive the information at the same time or even before he does.  It will be a large manila envelope and in addition to the Grauation info it should have recommendations on cheap air fare, motel/hotel recommendations, tickets to graduation, tickets for parking, etc.  He stressed not to throw ANYTHING from the envelope away until after graduation.

  • Thanks everyone - all great advice, and I'm so thankful to have this forum to share our thoughts!  So glad people are already getting the PIR letters - helps us know it shouldn't be too much longer for ours!  I can't wait to hear when each of you gets letters or the coveted phone calls - it will be fun to hear when you do.  Thanks!

  • Hey all, my son arrivd late on june 8, my wife has been in contact with a girl in Chicago whos BF went in same day. She got her letter already (being in Chicago) and said PIR is July 29. No telling for sure until our letter arrives. I am going to wait until I know for sure before booking anything.

I did jump ahead and start checking flights out of Southern Ca and notice that packages from the links on the Navy boot camp related sites were better than my own searches. As long as we book 14 to 30 days out should be the best fairs.

  • Ben , My recruit, Daughter, also arrived at RTC on June 7.  I am calling her recruiter on Monday as per his instructions to get her address.  I will ask he can tell me anything about graduation.  But the above advice of patience and waiting for the form letter sounds good to me.
  • Ben---I gotta agree with Jim...I'd wait for the form letter and PIR info.  Much can change and trying to guess schedules is problematic at best.
