Flight home after A School

My sailor is graduating A School in Pensacola, FL. next week.  She will be able to come home for a couple weeks before reporting to her command.  Is there any help available for Airfare?  We won't know when she will be able to leave for sure, so the flight will be within a week of finding out and prices are fairly steep that late in the game.

Thanks for the input.

  •    He has a flight from A School to his first Command that is paid for by the Navy. You don't state where that is. He is only responsible out of pocket for the difference between that flight and the flight home(and back to his Command). He will be reimbursed for the initial flight per his orders.....that will at least help!

  • Here we are a year later than the last post and our situation is the same. Five days available leave for my son, home is in California and the cost of the flights out of Pensacola are terrible. Way cheaper at other larger airline hubs but how could he get there?  I could sure use some advice if there is any.

  • My son will be coming home from Pensacola FL "A" School for Xmas. Does anyone know if there is any sort of transportation to the Airports. The Pensacola/Gulf Coast, FL (PNS)" is the closest to the base but also a lot more exspensive then Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando and so on. The problem is he has no way to get to these airports and $1250 is way too much I told him to pay. I saw where flying out of ATL to CA is $600 cheaper. Any advise or ideas?????????

  • My son mentioned to me that the Recruiter told him there is program that allows them to fly from Base To Base, anywhere in the world for a buck. Is this a fantasy then?
  • I wonder if your family belongs to a faith community, whether they would be able to help. I recommend speaking with the pastor, rabbi, or imam to ask. In my experience working with faith communities, this would not be an unusual type of request. Another idea might be a local chapter of the American Legion or a masonic temple. Someone in there might have a buddy pass, or arrange for a fundraising dinner: and those gentlemen are always thoughtful about our boys and men in service. Just some ideas.

  • This was a long long time ago but when my father was in the Navy the family could go to Special Services and sometimes get a less expensive ticket.  But again this was a long time ago.  He was in for 30 yrs.

In  addition my parents use to fly Space A on military air transports all over the world.  I know from others who have flown in the last year that it is available. Could she use that service depending on where she was going?

  • I know of no help available for airfares.....you can always check with the airlines, but typically I'll see a waiver of bag fees for military traveling on orders and virtually nothing else.....sometimes if in uniform (which the Navy dissuades) they'll get a upgrade to a higher class by the flight crew....
