WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Actor Gary Sinise and his musical group the Lt. Dan Band performed a free USO concert for Washington Navy Yard personnel and families at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall, Dec. 3 in Washington.

The event was intended to boost morale and strengthen the bonds of community among the Washington Navy Yard employees and families who were affected by the Navy Yard shooting Sept. 16.

"This particular concert is in support of those at Navy Yard to try to raise some spirits in light of the terrible tragedy that happened," said Sinise.

Sinise and the 12-member Lt. Dan Band have become a popular rock-n-roll and pop music cover band and have performed on multiple USO tours around the world.

"I spend a lot of time throughout the year trying to make sure the men and women who serve our country are honored, remembered and served," said Sinise.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus was also in attendance and was thankful for the band's gesture of goodwill.

"For the USO and Gary Sinise to do this for the survivors and for the families of the victims of the Navy Yard is truly a special thing," said Mabus.

Sinise has served as an advocate of servicemen and women for more than a decade, receiving several distinguished awards to include the Presidential Citizens Medal.

The USO is a private, non-profit organization that provides morale and recreational services to members of the U.S. military.
