I'm the son of a retired sailor. My father was an ABF1 when he retired. I'm also a glass artist and would like to make my dad a glass plaque to honor his time in the Navy. I would like to feature a replica of his sleeve insignia patch, but want to make sure I get it right.
I know that the patch has the three strips beneath and the eagle on top, but can't recall the design in the middle. I know it's related to his USN occupational rating -- ABF -- and from this site was able to find the design for ABF here: http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/abf-aviation-boatswains-mate?xg_source=activity
Is that the design that goes in the middle of the patch? Or is it something else?
My thanks in advance for any help you can give. Obviously I can't ask my dad and spoil the surprise!

I've out of the field now for a number of years and haven't kept up- too bad the supply has dried up.....it was so versatile! Have used a number of products from Rayzist and what used to be Photobrasive but kinda miss cutting mask by hand!
I'll be sure to post photos when I'm done.
Flashed glass is getting hard to find. We have to make our own version by fusing two glasses together in a kiln.
Will be most anxious to see your final product! I always liked the flashed glass as it was such a great contrast.......
Thanks very much. Sandblasting was what I had in mind, only on blue iridized glass.
I'd sandblast that on flashed blue on white glass (done my share of blasting in a prior life)
