Yes, Paul this is true. Danger is an element for the entire fleet in the Navy. I always stress to Evan, watch your surroundings, pay attention, know what can hurt you, and watch out for it. The flight deck is controlled chaos, that is because of their training. Dangerous but always controlled. But when you think of the amount of ordinance on any given ship all of our children could be in danger at a moments notice. So I really don't see any job being more dangerous than the other but some jobs put you in harms way more often. That is why the Navy trains their special forces SEAL, SWCC, EOD, and Diver's so well. Bronsd if your son chooses this rate, be sure to know they will give him the best training available. Life in general is dangerous in the military. That's why we're so proud of our military for their service. Keep us posted on what he decides and know that we're here for you when you need us.

  • Dangerous is all a frame of reference. As an example- over the years I've handled and used in mining processes literally tens of thousands of pounds of cyanide. A piece of cyanide half the size of a grain of rice is a typical lethal dose for an adutl male. I felt perfectly safe doing so because I know and understand the properties of cyanide very well and entrust my life to that knowledge and understanding. EOD is approached in the same manner, with extraordinary training and complete understanding of the properies of what is being handled. I'm not trying to minimize the danger, but as EG will tell you, his son works in one of the most damergous rates in the navy and you have to entrust your son to his training, his shipmates, and his personal responsibility to make safe job choices each and every time.
  • Yes dangerous but a very elite job in the Navy. I have all the respect in the world for the young men who do this. God bless them all.
