Job Title

I am new to this group and am hoping to get some help with a question or two. Today my son called to tell me that he joined the Navy. I am happy he has chosen the Navy. It think it could be good for him in many ways. I am concerned though because is sounds like he was misled when given information about what his job will be. I have tried to find some clarification of what this job might consist of but no luck. So I am writing here hoping someone can help to understand what he will actually be doing and where. Here is what he signed up for. Advanced Technical Field Information Systems Technician. I guess it is the field part that I am wondering about. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

John

  • Thank you so much that takes a lot of worry off now to understand what this all about. My Son, also named John signed up for six years. Which surprised me. However after reading about the job, the education he will be getting I can see why he made that decision. Thank you again for helping a Dad with his worries about his son.
  • you are reading the rate incorrectly...it is (Advanced Technical Field)....it is a advanced rate and has nothing whatsoever to do with "field work".....the Navy has a series of rates that have the ATF qualifier....an example is Advanced Technical Field Gas Turbine Technician.....
  • Thank you this was a big help. I am still wondering about the field part but it looks like he will be getting a good education.
