Last week with my son

Down to the last week with my son. He leaves on Oct 1 for boot camp. So very proud and excited for him to start his amazing journey like I did 28 years ago. Anyone else have a sailor with a bootcamp start date Oct 1, I would love to get a group together so we are in the same boat (a little humor to break the stress).

  • Terry,

My Son left on the 1st as well. That was my birthday and the only think I wanted to know about was my son. I told people not to call me or congratulate me for my birthday because that day was not about me anymore, but about my Son becoming a great Navy Soldier.

  • I know exactly what you mean. My oldest also helped me get my life together. It was hard letting him go and living everyday without him here. But I am so proud of him and the way he is taking control of his life.
    • :-) that's right!!! bittersweet!!!

  • My son shipped to boot last Wednesday also, it was the saddest proudest day of my life if u get what I mean? :) He's my first born the reason I got my life together to better his. Watching baseball without him was very hard for me. Just so proud of my son becoming a man serving his Country. He's always said I was his hero and now he's mine. Have any of you received a letter yet about graduation? I got mine yesterday I was so excited just seeing his sloppy hand writing lol.
    • Jorge — my son shipped out last Thursday, Oct. 2. My firstborn too. I really appreciated what you wrote and how you feel! I received his letter with his mailing address and graduation date and, like you, was overjoyed to see that terrible handwriting :)

Hang in there, man. Our young men are the finest there are!

      • What is his pir date, we didn't get the letter yet
        • Terry, my son is Ship 4 Div 801 and wrote that his graduation date is Wednesday, November 26th. I thought all PIRs were on Friday and am trying to confirm if in fact they take place on Wednesdays too. Certainly don't want to miss this!

          • Thanksgiving week- PIR is on Wednesday and if there is a Major holiday on a Friday, PIR will usually be scheduled on Thursday.

          • Thanks so much for the info. Me and my wife heard that on the holiday week they move it to the Wednesday. We also saw a couple of people who had SR's leave the same week as ours and they are scheduled to PIR on the 21st. I'm a little confused and can't wait to get his letter to be sure. That's great your son is in one of the specialty divisions (800-900). My son is ship 2 division 903, sticks and drill. Gonna be great!!
            • You're welcome! I really can't wait for his graduation. Funny to realize we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving in the Windy City too ha ha. I hope you get the letter soon!
