My son had Lasik and lens implants prior to enlisting, during the recruit phase, he received waivers clearing him to continue, he had passed all of his Physical Tests, but at the end of his 3rd week at boot camp they state that the lens implants have disqualified him, and is now returning home. How can waivers be given out then denied. He gave up a fulltime job as a firefighter, sold all of his belongings. has any one been through this and can offer some help.

regards

Kelly

  • Maybe the implant didn't take, or new facts came out about future problems...the Navy doesn't want to pay disability not related to the Navy. If your child was 'altered' he shouldn't if been allowed in...sorry for the news. That must of been a huge let-down. He can appeal all the way up to the chain of command, start with a Congressional inquiry...that will get things moving.
