Greetings to all fellow members of NavyDads! I think this website it great. I've gotten a lot of very useful information. We flew in to O'Hare for our son's PIR on 02/03/17. We had a great, but short time. We both shipped out the following day, him to San Antonio, and us back home to Oregon.
My first question relates to our visit to the NEX after PIR. I was able to purchase a regulation Navy dark blue watch cap ($4.07!). It was very cold and I had forgotten to bring a hat. It served me well, but somehow in the ride back to O'Hare for our flight out, I left my watch cap in the cab and didn't realize it was missing till we got to the Boise airport to drive back to Oregon. Is there any way to purchase another official watch cap online?
My second question also involves a lost item. But this was our son's personal Bible. He was on a top bunk, and somehow in packing his seabag and other items, he didn't notice it was still on his rack. It has a lot of meaning to him and does have his name inside it. Any suggestions on his best recourse to attempt to retrieve his Bible and have it sent to him? He just got to A school in San Antonio a few days ago.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions for my questions and I look forward to learning more from you all here on NavyDad.com!

I can't help you with a source to purchase another official watch cap online however.... I live very close to Great Lakes and I'm a Mom who feels horrible about your son losing his Bible. If you tell me exactly where to go and exactly who to contact at Great Lakes to try to track his Bible down, I will get in my car and do whatever I can for your son. Sometimes, someone being there in person asking for help can make all the difference.
I know they have a lost and found there because our family took in sailors stuck in boot camp at Great Lakes over Thanksgiving over the course of the past 30 years. We'd drive and pick them up to spend the holiday with our family then would drive them back to base. One young man took his watch off to wash his hands and left it on my counter. He didn't even realize it was missing. The Navy was not in a position to provide me with his contact information to mail it back to him direct but they got it to him.
If I should be able to track down your son's Bible and if he releases it to me, I would be happy to mail it back to either him or you priority mail with a signature required on delivery to minimize the risk of it getting lost in the mail.
