Mail in first weeks of boot camp

Hello! My son has been in RTC since Thursday of last week. I received a package via FedEx today (was lucky to be home to sign!) with his clothes, phone, charger. I expected it to include additional information - like the address I can write to him at, his division, etc. Would love to know how to reach him to provide support and encouragement.
Can you please let me know what your experience with mail was like? Did you receive clothes and form letter at the same time? Did you receive a letter from your recruit independent of any of those items with how to write them back?

Thanks

  • there are any number of recruits that elect to either discard to to donate the clothes they arrive in so a box would not be a universal way to communicate that info.

  • You'll get a form letter with address and a bunch of PIR info in a few days....have patience.  You can start writing if you wish...suggest you number the letters so he can read them in order when he gets them...that will take a couple of weeks while the mail system for the division is set up and everyone gets trained.  Do not expect many letters in return....they are very busy and frankly have better things to with their time than write. Keep letter upbeat and positive...some jokes help.
