What happens when a Sailor is given a medical discharge? The stress from Prototype has taken its toll on my son and he was taken to the hospital. He was asked to be separated from the Navy not rerated. Just wondering what's next.

I'll find some more info when I can
I understood that....there is a section regarding those in over 180 days...which would apply to Gunnar. Did he ask to be separated? Without knowing the circumstances, it is difficult to offer any insight. I don't know what his options are at this point. The Navy isn't going to offer choices...He will be re-rated or separated...in which case he will get a ticket home (or at least close).
. Recruits who serve in the Navy more than 180 days are typically separated with a characterization of “General Under Honorable Conditions” unless the reason for separation was due to any type of misconduct.
He's in Nuke school not boot camp
Here is the link....It will give you some idea of what to expect...

...Go to our Ship 5 Group. It deals with separations and will give you lots of information that you will need! While this group deals primarily with Entry Level separations, it should offer some insight....
