MEPS I processing

My son has been in the process of enlisting for a year. He was not on DEP. He had weight to lose. He was supposed to go to MEPS I two weeks ago. THEY screwed up his reservation at the MEPS center and he was told he'd go the following week. That week came. THEY again had not resolved this reservation issue at the MEPS center and he was told it was escalated to the commanding officer. He called my son and said he'd go THIS week. Well, today, the recruiter called and said that MEPS was now kicking his paperwork back because they do need the medical records from 1998-2003 when he was 8-12 years old or a letter stating the records are not available. I called the pediatrician and they said records were in offsite storage and we'd have to wait for other records requests for the offsite storage to come in because they wouldn't call the records for one person.

I am SO frustrated. My son is a good kid. Never any trouble, good student, 2 years of college behind him.

Why are they going to so much detail? Is it really that necessary? Or is MEPS just covering their butts?

Have any of you gone through this?
