Hello All!
HELP!
I am a proud USN veteran and my daughter is three weeks into RTC. That is the good news. The bad news is she will NOT be getting her TS clearance for her CT-R job (she was adopted from Russia at age 9 and has an idiot Russian boyfriend) and they said no to the TS. No problem, I understand.
My question is: Does anyone know if her failure to get the TS means the Navy will release her since she had the CTR A School guarantee? Based on her letters she has until the 18th to pick another rate. But if she does NOT pick another rate does the USN kick her loose or will it be the "needs of the Navy" as they called when I was in, i.e., you are going to the fleet and do something? At this juncture I think she will opt out of the USN if given the opportunity and that is the absolute last flipping thing I want her to do.
Input anyone?
Thanks.

I never got back to you, but that mysterious call was just an extra free call from my son. So far he actually is enjoying boot camp. PIR 4/27/12.
Thanks again.

I have a missed call today on my cell phone without voicemail, and when I called the number back, I got someone saying that this was the office for outgoing members, and whoever called me will call back. When I asked if this means my son is being let go, the chief petty officer said it could be anything, including medical questions.
Does this happen a lot? It's going to be an unpleasant wait for the callback.
That's the best news. I am glad she does not want out. I have also heard that she could eventually earn her security status.
I spoke with my girl and she does NOT want to opt out so hopefully there will be another billet for her.
Thanks.
It is my understanding from my son who just graduated PIR 9-30-11 is that if your daughter wants out she can opt out. He said there were kids in his division that just decided they didn't want to stay and they began the process of getting them out. Note here that if she does that and is placed in Ship 5 she will end up staying there until after her original Division graduates. Different scenario than when I was in but thats what he says happened.
Hey Craig,
Thanks for the info. Just for clarification, my girl is already in boot camp and did dislcose the boyfriend both before she shipped out and during her security interviews at RTC so she has been up front about the whole thing. Allegedly yesterday she was to meet with a counselor or some such and see what other jobs might be available and hopefully she found one and picked one.
Let's hope so anyway.

Well FGB,
Glad to see another veteran here.... Like all sailors I don't sugarcoat things.
Secondly, you'll probably not like my answer, but at least you'll see the rule and hopefully
use it to your advantage....
Per your daughter,
I assumed she was a U.S. citizen when she joined. But she could have joined as a legal residence of the U.S., with a green card, but she would have been limited on which ratings (jobs) she will get.
Where the problem lays is she was put into the CTR rating. I'm guessing, but I beleive she was not "Bound by Affection" to her birth mother, father, aunts, or uncle, etc... By this is she was adopted without knowing her birth family. So this makes her eligible for that rating, believe it or not... I have a friend that has parents that were from Vietnam, and he was still able to get a SBI access because he wasn't "Bound by Affection", he didn't see them in 10 or more years....
Now where your daughter is screwed is she has the Russian boyfriend. That makes her ineligible for that rating. Those two items mixed together doesn't work. My guess is she failed to tell the recruiter she had a Russian BF, or the recruiter told her not to say anything. Either way, she will more than likely be discharged with the code of "SEPARATION BY REASON OF UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE"
She will be discharged with a RE-4 discharge code of GHJ, HHJ, or JHJ. With a RE-4 discharge code, she will not be able to get into any service EVER. I know you know that since your a veteran, but wanted to post it for the others that might read this tread.
I know you're wondering why Unsatisfactory Performance"? Well it's a discharge they give all sailors who can't get a security clearance. You can read it here on MILPERSMAN 1910.156. Look at para 2.F
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/190...
Could she get another rating? She could. But if she doesn't pick another rating they will discharge her. I don't think they will send her "undes" since the Navy is full. My guess it they will more than likely they will discharge her if she doesn't chose another rating.
I had a guy on my website get discharged for the same discharge code. He has been fighting 2 years to get it changed, but more than likely, he will continue to fight this for 10 more years. It won't be changed. Had he knew the outcome, he would have never joined.
Believe me, I love seeing people join the Navy, but in your case, I don't see no much hope if she doesn't take another rating, but it will be very limited.
Again, I want to say again, "Don't kill the messager".
