OPSEC and the Media...

As much as I'd like to know everything about my sailor's whereabouts, I always try to make a conscious decision to keep OPSEC in mind. I'm certain that everyone here shares this very sentiment to a certain degree if not more.

As a member of the Admin Team on this site, during my watch (the times that I happen to be on) I've modified member posts that were considered obvious OPSEC violations and/or border-line comments posted.

This morning however, I ran into a publication online and my jaw just dropped. I could not believe what I was reading. I gather there are 'times' when the media is exempt from OPSEC? Not really sure if this was 'leaked' or not or maybe I'm just reading way too deep in between the lines. Now if this information came out of an official US Navy site via press-release or via other official announcement(s) then I'd feel a lot better or probably much worse hehe...

Maybe I'm just overreacting to all of this. Nevertheless, I'm scratching my head how and why this could be?

Anyhow I'm done with my griping have a great week and may the force be with you always...

Gary, I would love to see what you're talking about. I would say that just because it's the main stream media, doesn't mean they always follow good OPSEC.
