Phone calls during boot camp

Hello all my name is Patrick Clatke my son Ryan just got to Great Lakes on October 16 at around 12 mid Chicago time. I got the scripted 30second call. I made it, you will get box with belongings, will call again in three or so weeks. This is all new for me.. When he gets to make his second call does he get like 5min and he can make one or two calls or does he get to just call one number. I ask because me and his mother are divorced and obliviously we both would like to talk to him even if it's for 30 seconds or a minute. Hoping someone can shed a little light on this for me. I appreciate any response I receive and glad ther is a site like this for parents of saliors.. Thanks Patrick

  • My Son arrived at Great Lakes on October 7th. Got the scripted call at 1:30am. Just got a call from him this past Saturday morning! Got to talk with him for about 5 minutes, he wanted to make a few more calls. So if you see a call with Area Code 847.....it's your son calling!

    • Thanks Chris for the heads up on what area code to watch out for. I may not have answered the call being concerned with previous scam calls.  Glad to have an idea of knowing the call is a bit more than the 5 minute rush call.

      • Thanks again Chris for the heads up on the area code.  I saw the area code on my phone at 1pm on Sunday and almost fumbled my phone out of excitement.  It was great to hear his voice and hear from him directly how he is thriving and taking on the challenges before him. Best wishes to you and your SR and all these fine young men.  My son also got there on Oct 7th and his PIR is Dec 5th so maybe we'll cross paths if you're there. Here's to the next few weeks...they are almost at the halfway point.

        • No problem Mike! We are staying at the Navy Lodge. Should be rolling in on Thursday Dec 4th around 7-8pm. Leaving PA around 6 in the morning...about a 12 hour drive.

    • thanks for the info really appreciate it

  • Patrick, our 2nd and 3rd call from our son lasted around 30 minutes each. He called my wife at work and talked to her for about 15 minutes. Then he called me at home and talked about the same. He then called my neighbor and talked for a few. Don't worry my friend, the first is the worst.
    • Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. He is in day 6. Glad it gets easier I know he is in good hands. Thanks again
