PIR 10/7/11

~S~ All....We are on the final countdown for PIR on 10/7....coming from Boston. My daughter is in Ship 03...div 334. We have reservations at the Courtyard by Marriott....any others? I would love to meet some of you if possible..

    Congratulations Rick! How great that the whole bunch were able to be there to help your grandson celebrate his moment!

    I have to agree with you about how GREAT PIR was. We were also there for our grandson 03/335. We stayed at the Navy Lodge. The staff was great and even had a bag breakfast (bagel,cream cheese, OJ) for each one of us. Our new sailor also just wanted to go to the motel and just relax, then went to dinner before getting him back in time. Got a call at 3:30 Sat morning that he was already at O'Hare, so it was up and drive to the airport to be with him. We had a group with us, his dad, gma,gpa, gf, stepmom and brother. It was a very fast couple of days that we will always remember. And yes the weather was great as we are from S. Fl and not liking cold.

They also provided shuttles on Friday AM for $3/person. Our rental had a GPS, which was invaluable in getting around. Punch in 3600 Ohio St and it will get you right to the gate for Graduation. Plan to arrive by 6:30am as the lines are long for entrance...but they do move swiftly. The weather could not have been any better for PIR. The ceremony went off perfectly and right on time. Ken and I had sent a few messages back and forth on Navy Dads and we had a chance to meet after Liberty Call. It turned out that our daughters were bunkmates...small world!!!

       We took our Sailor out for a meal and then back to the hotel. She really wanted to just sit, relax, and visit with us. She had to be back in her compartment by 8:30pm as she was leaving for the airport early the next morning. On Saturday, we headed back to Midway to spend as much time as possible with our daughter. Go to the check-in desk for their airline and they will give you a gatepass to accompany your son/daughter. We stayed until she boarded her flight to A School. The time flew by...but the experience was wonderful. I met many other parents over the coarse of the trip....instant comradery! Thanks for all of the tips provided here on Navy Dads....they made the journey through Basic much easier for me!

    I just got the "I'm a Sailor" call !!!! I am so excited for Friday's PIR...feel like a kid at Christmas! Our daughter's are in the same division....

    can I get an address sent to me please , I am not very good at this on-line stuff but I do know how to read a map and work a GPS ... I have a room at the Hiltion Garden in Lake Forest Mettaws.

    There is always a meet and greet at the Ramada in Waukegan. Even if you aren't staying there, you are welcome. There will be parents there with SRs in other divisions as well.
