Question about Uniform Issues

Not entirely sure but I read somewhere a while back that the Navy no longer issues uniforms to our Sailors for free but rather charges them for their first issue. I'd like to know if anyone here can confirm this.

  • "hey, there is an extra $300 in my check!! Beers on me guys!!"

  • Thanks for helping clear this up, guys. I'm at the point now of forgetting whether or not I got an allowance....I probably did. With that, I'll help remind my son about this annual allowance and to use it ONLY on his uniforms. Not sure if you guys were in the Navy but if so, you'd remember how we were when we were young - and when it came down to these allowances!

  • they get an allowance, but is does not cover most uniform costs......the 2012 men's E1-E6 total seabag price is $ 1697.30.  Basic annual replacement allowance is given to members with up to three years on active duty while those who have completed three years of service receive the standard allowance.  Standard replacement allowance is $ 482.40 and basic replacement allowance is $338.40.  From NavyTimes 7 Nov. 2011
