I joined this site quite some time ago when the idea of my son and daughter heading off to Boot Camp seemed so far off and haven't spent too much time here. Now I realize two of my fishing buddies are leaving in less then four weeks. Wow, I think its going to be harder then I anticipated. Guess you have all gone through the same.
Thank you all for your insight. I know it will help dealing with such a life changing event going forward. I must admit, I am feeling a little nervous and anxious at the moment.

Rich - I am going through the same thing. My daughter leaves for boot camp on 6/20/11 and it has my head spinning a little bit. I am very close to my daughter and enjoy having her around. I am going to miss our daily talks and time spent together. At the same time I am excited for her to take this next step in her life and it is going to be awesome to watch her to continue to grow and mature.
I will probably be a wreck after she leaves Monday.
Rich, we all know what you are going through and you are so correct it is one of the hardest this you will ever have to do. As parents we want to be there for our children and protect them. It so hard sending them off to the unknown. Be prepared the day they leave you will hurt but I can’t describe the joy you will have on graduation day. Just know that in 8-9 weeks you will see the person you always knew your son and daughter could be. A man and woman whom not only have taken the first steps in becoming sailors but also has become a hero to all of us who love this country of ours. God bless you all and please tell your son and daughter I said thank you for their service.
