Sailor and their Taxes

Not sure where to start on this.....

We are new to the Navy (first year in)

I have always done my sons taxes.

With the Navy being his only job last year, and him being aboard the USS West Virginia ,somewhere under water.

What does he do about his taxes?

I cant get ahold of him, of course.

    My future sailor will have income from 2017 prior to shipping to boot camp. Should we just wait until next spring to send him the tax documents for that or is there certain procedure we should follow?

    He gets an extension, or will be guided on how to file one.  The Navy provides tax assistance, trained VITA volunteers who specialize in helping the military file.  Don't worry, he will not be left hanging.
