Biography
IC Robert Melivn is 19 years old and is currently deployed on the USS George Washington (CVN 73). The GW is forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan. As an IC, Robert has a diverse series of responsibilities including repairing phones on the ship. He has recently become certified as a fiber optic installer. One of his job tasks is to video the planes landing on the carrier which takes him to one of the most dangerous spots in the world…the flight deck of a Nimitz-class carrier!!
Very respective of people and not afraid of hard work, most of his messages home have him talking about how great it is being at sea, and all the new friends he's making. Robert’s dad (Mike) said “With all the energy he has, he needed an outlet and I think he found a good one.” Being deployed has limited communication with home- dad Mike told us he hasn’t had much communication with him other than the occasional email message every three or four days, although he did call home when the GW was in Singapore.
Robert's job on the GW is very intense. Dad Mike's message is that our sons and daughters have the task of keeping peace in the world, and if we don't hear from them for a while, it's ok. No news is good news.
Thanks Mike and God speed to Robert and the George Washington! HOOYAH!
